Management of first aid standby services

Course introduction

The Finnish Red Cross training for managing first aid standby services provides tools and models for managing small or medium-sized first aid standby duties. During the training, participants will learn about the tasks, responsibilities, and duties of a first aid standby service manager, as well as how to acquire and maintain a situational picture.

Target group

The training is intended for experienced first aid standby volunteers with good physical and mental capacity, who hold a valid standby duty authorization and have mastered the communications related to first aid standby services. The prerequisite training requirement will be the advanced course for first aid standby volunteers, but for the time being, it is sufficient that the person has, in addition to the above, the readiness to lead a first aid pair/patrol.

Learning objectives

• The participant knows how to act as a manager of a Finnish Red Cross first aid standby service.
• The participant knows how to acquire and maintain a situational picture of a first aid standby service.
• The participant knows how to select appropriate methods to anticipate and react to situations arising during a first aid standby service.
• The participant knows how to cooperate with the local branch's standby contact person and other potential actors involved in first aid standby services.

Certificate

Credit-rated Sivis training model: The training is credit-rated, with a scope of 1.0 credit. Credit-rated certificates are issued by Study Centre Sivis; the district or local branch that organized the training enters the records of completion into the Sivis study register. Through the Sivisverkko study register, you can view your own details and print your own certificates if you have identified yourself in Sivisverkko. Identification can be completed, for example, using your personal online banking credentials.

Delivery methods

The contact teaching of the training is 14 hours in duration and consists of both remote and in-person study. The detailed scheduling and delivery method of the course vary slightly by region. In addition, participants will independently study certain background materials during the training.
