Contact person for youth activities and school collaboration

Reaching children and young people and school collaboration are an important part of our organisation's work. At school, we reach more young people than anywhere else, and we can influence their willingness to help and to get involved in our activities. Even a small investment in school collaboration is meaningful.

We have many excellent and free learning materials available for teachers to use. With their help, the Red Cross is visible at school in themes that are important to us. Children and young people learn important skills and become familiar with the Red Cross. Many teachers are not yet aware of our learning materials, which is why simply telling them about the materials is an extremely important form of school collaboration!

The school collaboration contact person takes care of communication with schools in the area. They respond to enquiries from schools and can also boldly reach out to schools themselves. Sometimes the challenge is that a school has to wait a long time for a response to a visit enquiry, because the message is passed around between many different parties. It would therefore be good to aim to respond to a visit request within a week. We are not always able to fulfil the request, but schools understand this well when they are told that the visitors are volunteers.

The branch's school collaboration contact person can brainstorm different school collaboration opportunities together with the branch. If people who work in schools are involved in the branch's volunteer activities, it is of course worth making use of them in passing information on to schools.
