School collaboration – information for volunteers
The school and educational institution collaboration pages is intended for all Red Cross volunteers interested in school collaboration, above all for branches' school cooperation contact persons.
The aim of the Red Cross school collaboration is to increase children's and young people's skills in helping themselves and others, promoting equality and their own and their loved ones' health, preparing for the effects of climate change and for sudden everyday crises, as well as recognising and intervening in racism. In addition, school cooperation is a great opportunity to make the Red Cross visible and well known among children, young people and their parents.
On this website you will find information about the opportunities for Red Cross school collaboration as well as materials to support cooperation and visits. The free learning materials intended for schools', which you can also make use of as a visitor, can be found in the Red Cross Learning Material Service. By registering with the service in the role of a teacher, you gain access to additional instructions for using the packages.
The Red Cross has plenty of free learning materials to support teachers' work, but many teachers do not yet know about them. At its simplest, school cooperation can be telling schools in the area about the learning materials and the national morning assemblies.
Forms of school cooperation
- Informing schools in the area about the free learning materials and national morning assemblies
- Morning assembly sessions at schools (theme days and campaigns)
- Visits to lessons or to schools' event days
- Organising events together with the school
- Informing about collections and campaigns (Hunger Day, Anti-Racism Week, Valentine's Day)
- Telling about the Day's Work collection
- Visits to parents' evenings, teachers' training days or other school events
- Telling about the Red Cross's forms of help and activities (including the Youth Shelter and Nettiturvis, Homework Help).
- Teddy Bear Hospital at an early childhood education event or theme day.

Teachers' newsletter
Subscribing to the teachers' newsletter is the best way to receive up-to-date information about new or updated learning materials, tips for theme days or, for example, links to national theme days.
So whenever you meet teachers, always encourage them to subscribe to our newsletter! It is definitely worth subscribing to the newsletter yourself as well. That way you stay best informed about what is happening in Red Cross school collaboration.
