Volunteering Policy

The primary mission of the Red Cross is to help people in their everyday lives, in life’s crises, and in accidents. One of the fundamental principles of the Red Cross is voluntary service. Our work is based on having a sufficient number of volunteers within the organization who are skilled, have a strong sense of well-being, and motivated to help. Every volunteer is an important link in the chain of help. We want volunteers to find joy and a sense of achievement through their volunteering.
The Volunteering Policy sets the direction for Red Cross volunteering. More detailed measures are agreed upon in the action plans of Red Cross branches, districts, and at the national level.
The Board of the Red Cross approved the Volunteering Policy in 2023. It is one of many strategic alignments within the Finnish Red Cross. Other alignments related to volunteering include those for environmental sustainability, digitalization, and the prevention of sexual harassment and exploitation.
