Prevention and reporting of misconduct

In every organization and workplace, misconduct and inappropriate conduct can occur. It is important that information about undesirable conduct comes to light as soon as possible, so that the situation can be investigated and corrective measures can be taken if necessary.

What should be reported?

Anyone can file a misconduct report. A suspicion is enough; the person reporting does not need to have specific evidence to support the suspicion; a reasoned suspicion is sufficient. All reports are handled with absolute confidentiality. Reports can be made completely anonymously. The identity of the reporter will be kept confidential throughout the entire process. You should file a report on suspected violations when your suspicion concerns possible misconduct, unethical behavior, harassment, or inappropriate treatment within the Red Cross. Misconduct can also include sexual harassment, molestation, and exploitation, or a breach of the Code of Ethics.

Suspicions of misconduct and corruption must be reported as early as possible to minimize any resulting damage. The informant does not need to have evidence when reporting; a reasoned suspicion of misconduct or corruption is enough. The informant also does not need to know who acted wrongly. Investigation is the responsibility of the organization.

How to make a misconduct report

The Finnish Red Cross conducts all its activities in accordance with the highest ethical principles, as well as laws, guidelines, and regulations. We encourage volunteers to always report any suspicions related to misconduct, unethical behavior, harassment, or inappropriate treatment.

You can file an anonymous report through the misconduct reporting tool:

Suspicions of misconduct can be reported not only online but also by email directly to the Internal Auditor (riika.viik@redcross.fi) or by letter to Tehtaankatu 1a, 00140 Helsinki (the envelope should be marked "Confidential / Misconduct suspicion report").
