Theme and activity groups

Red Cross volunteer activities that support integration vary by region. Not all forms of activity are available in every locality, as the activities are organised by volunteers. If you are enthusiastic and bold, you can recruit friends to help you and establish the Red Cross activity group of your choice in your own locality. You can get help with this from the staff member responsible for immigration work in your district.

Volunteers can organise, among other things:

Various clubs where participants can do crafts, play music, cook, repair bicycles, or, for example, go on excursions together. The main thing is that the activity is enjoyable for both the tutors and the participants!
Leisure activities for asylum seekers living in reception centres.

How to get involved in theme and activity groups

Sign up as a volunteer in your local area by creating a profile on Oma Punainen Risti. Through the platform, you will receive more information about the activities of your local branch. You can also search for activities supporting integration in your area on Oma here.
You can also contact the staff member responsible for immigration work at your district office. Contact details for district offices can be found here (in Finnish).

How to establish a new group

Contact your branch and let them know that you would like to organise a theme or activity group that supports integration.

Recruit other volunteers to help, and select 2–3 volunteers to act as the group's leaders/contact persons.
Prepare an action plan and a budget for the group and submit it to the board of your local branch for approval.
