Language clubs

You do not need teaching skills to act as a volunteer language club tutor for the Red Cross – a willingness to discuss various topics in Finnish is enough. In language clubs, participants practice using everyday language by speaking, and the clubs thus serve as additional support alongside the courses provided by the public authorities. Language clubs can operate, for example, in connection with a library or another public space. The language club meetings can have a specific theme, or participants can split into smaller groups to converse with the volunteers. Sometimes participants need help with tasks like their Finnish course homework.

How to get involved in language club activities

Sign up as a volunteer in your local area by creating a profile on Oma Punainen Risti. Through the platform, you will receive more information about the activities of your local branch. You can also search for activities supporting integration in your area on Oma.

Establishing a new language club

If your locality does not yet have a language club but you would like to establish one, you can contact your local branch or the staff member responsible for migration work at your district office. Contact details can be found on the districts' websites here (in Finnish).
