Participant Guide for Trainings
Nynäs has served as a Finnish Red Cross training centre since the 1960s. However, the history of Nynäs goes back much further, with a manor house dating back to the 18th century.
When arriving, make your way to the training centre to check-in.
Unfortunately, all the buildings of the training centre are not wheelchair accessible. Participants’ needs are considered in planning the training.
Meals
Our delicious meals are prepared by Sport Cafe catering team.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at building A, also known as “Mylly”. In the evening (from 9 pm onwards), there are snacks available at the cafeteria.
During breaks, coffee, tea and snacks are served next to the plenary room. Feel free to bring any favourite snacks or the like to share (or to just enjoy on your own) during the training sessions. Please take care that the classroom is clean from rubbish and coffee cups after each training day.
Your meals are arranged based on the information you have provided at the time of registration. Please consider that the special meals are reserved only for the participants who have requested them. In case of questions or doubts, contact us: delegate.learning@redcross.fi before the training in Nynäs.
Accommodation
You are staying in shared rooms in buildings A, C and D.
It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure a pleasant stay – this means picking up after yourself, letting your neighbors sleep and communicating any issues that may arise. Please keep in mind that in Finland the custom is to take off your shoes indoors.
If you notice something missing or broken, you can communicate this to the staff using feedback post-it notes by the building entrance.
What to Pack
It is recommended that you take a laptop with you. To ensure full concentration on learning during the training sessions, using your laptops is allowed at the training only when searching for resources online is required in the exercises and group work.
Please take a notebook with you so you can make notes during the training sessions. It is recommended that you write down at least a few words or key learning deliverables during or after each session. Pens, post-it notes etc. will be available at the training center.
The training takes place mainly in a classroom, but the premises in Nynäs require walking from one building to another. If weather permits, some sessions will be held outside. Thus, appropriate clothing and footwear is needed for classroom training and being outdoors for short periods of time.
Please the weather forecast for Finland for the time of your training and pack accordingly. Woolen socks or indoor shoes are recommended, they will keep your feet warm during classroom training as the floors in the training building are quite chilly.
Bring a personal hygiene kit. Towels, sheets and a hair dryer are provided in the rooms. The training premises are located next to a lake, so if you want to utilize the swimming opportunity, please pack a swimsuit.
Sauna
Sauna is available every night for those who wish to utilize it. There are two saunas in the premises – a yard sauna and a lakeside sauna. When enjoying sauna in the latter, you can also dip in the lake, so take a swimming suit.
Bring your own hygiene products and a towel (you may use the one in your room). There are soft drinks at the saunas.
If you are the last one to leave the sauna, please turn off the lights and make sure the door is locked.
