Red Cross volunteer activities are based on safety, equality and respectful interaction. Every volunteer has the right to operate in an environment where they are valued and treated fairly – and a duty to promote this through their own actions.

The Amity within Red Cross guide is a practical tool that helps to:

• intervene in situations constructively and fairly
• strengthen a safe culture of operation in branches, groups and events

In the guide, you will find clear operating models, a description of the role the volunteer in charge, and concrete tools for challenging situations. The guide supports responsible volunteering in both everyday volunteer tasks and leadership roles.

The Guidelines for the suspension of a volunteer's activities, approved by the Red Cross Board at the beginning of 2026, define the principles and procedures for situations where a volunteer's actions cause harm or risks and other support measures are insufficient. The guidelines ensure the safety of volunteering and equal treatment in all units.
