What if the Red Cross were founded today? How would we organize our aid work? Through what kinds of operating models would we best achieve our shared purpose of helping those who need help the most? In what ways could we work to ensure that the need for help and those in need of it are even more at the center of the Finnish Red Cross’s operations? We want to find answers to these questions together, through open discussion and by considering different perspectives.
To coordinate and lead the work on changing operating models, the Finnish Red Cross Board has appointed the Committee for Renewed Operating Models.
The committee consists of:
Chair: Dan Sundqvist
Vice-Chair: Elisabeth Rintaluoma
Members:
- Sinituuli Dufva
- Harri Jokiranta
- Raisa Kuusisto
- Jooel Niittynen
- Karoliina Pilli-Sihvola
- Katri Vataja (Itla)
- Ferran Cobertera (Spanish Red Cross)
The presenting officer is Secretary General Eero Rämö
Committee meeting schedule:
4+ meetings in 2025, 1–3 meetings in 2026
The goal of renewing operating models is to enable helping those in the most vulnerable situations. We do not yet know through what changes or how this should happen in practice. Therefore, the goal is to engage in a shared, open discussion during 2024–2025 and, based on these discussions, present a proposal for new alternatives and development paths to the General Assembly in the summer of 2026.

The task of the Finnish Red Cross Committee for the Development of Youth Volunteering (2024–2026) is to:
- map out various measures to engage more young people in the Red Cross. Which working methods best support young people's connection to the organisation? What type of activities retain young people in the organisation, either in the short or long term?
- identify and anticipate trends of change in civil society from the perspective of young people's volunteering and civic engagement, and summarise their significance for the work of the Red Cross.
- create a vision (dream state) for Red Cross activities from the perspective of young people, and map out the factors that hinder the achievement of this vision.
- seek solutions for how the Red Cross can function as an equal and attractive environment for young people in volunteering as well as organisational and societal influence, and in doing so increase the number of young people participating in the organisation's activities in various roles.
- develop action recommendations for the Red Cross based on the solutions and pilots identified.
