Substance abuse work – information for volunteers
Are you already one of over 1,000 substance abuse work volunteers? Would you like to join in doing meaningful volunteer work?
This site is intended for Finnish Red Cross substance abuse work volunteers. If you want information about the activities, visit punainenristi.fi/terveytta-edistamaan, and if you want information about training, visit OmaPunainenRisti.
In Red Cross substance abuse work, we draw people's attention to health and well-being choices, challenge the normalisation of substance use, and strive to prevent drug-related deaths.
We offer training and methods for carrying out preventive as well as guiding and supportive substance abuse work based on humanitarian values. The work is directed at all age groups and is carried out by volunteers nationwide.
We provide the skills needed to prevent, identify, and address substance use, reduce harm, and guide people to support services — whether in volunteer activities or local communities.
We promote the reduction of substance use and its harms. The most important thing is respectful encounters and the promotion of well-being.
