Health Points – information for volunteers
Information and support for promoting your own health at Health Points
The Finnish Red Cross has about 110 Health Points, where you can meet a volunteer who is familiar with health promotion. Health Points offer support for health-related issues and questions that concern you in everyday life. You can visit a Health Point without an appointment.
Health Point volunteers organize various health-themed events and reach out to the community at different events. Health Points work in close cooperation with other Red Cross volunteers.
Ask your local branch for more information
If you are interested in health promotion and sharing evidence-based health information, we welcome you to become a Health Point volunteer! Many of those who volunteer at Health Points are healthcare professionals who want to use their professional skills for the benefit and joy of others in their free time. Health Points also have roles for non-professionals. Anyone interested in health promotion is welcome to join.
You can visit Health Points to discuss health-related questions concerning yourself or a loved one. Along with health discussions, Health Points measure blood pressure and, if necessary, provide support for lifestyle management, but medical procedures are not performed there, nor are opinions given on treatment policies. The most important thing is meeting people.
Health Points can be fixed or mobile, for example in branch premises, libraries, shopping centers, or the premises of partners. The activities are planned and targeted to meet the health needs of the people in the area.
Volunteer healthcare professionals are responsible for the activities of the Health Points, but all health promotion volunteers can be involved in organizing health-themed events. Most Health Points are open once a month or more, at most once a week. You can dedicate as much time as suits you.
How do I become a Health Point volunteer?
If you became interested in Health Points, please contact your nearest Red Cross branch. If they already have a Health Point, they can tell you where and when it is open. Not all branches have a Health Point yet. They might still be waiting for enthusiastic volunteers!
For Health Point volunteers, there is an induction training called Introduction to Health Point Activities. Join the training via the activity calendar and find your place to act as a health promoter!
