MobilePay is a smartphone app that allows users to make donations

With MobilePay, you can collect donations using national collection numbers or use a branch-specific Disaster Relief Fund MobilePay number, whose proceeds can be tracked separately. You can request a branch-specific number by email at keraykset@punainenristi.fi. Branch-specific MobilePay stickers can be ordered via this link by 23 August 2026. The stickers will be printed after the ordering deadline and delivered to branches by mid-September.

MobilePay in box collections

The permit stickers on the collection boxes already include the Disaster Relief Fund's general MobilePay number, 10900.

If you want to use a branch-specific number, stick the branch-specific number label over the Disaster Relief Fund's general number. Sticker orders can be placed once a year in connection with the Hunger Day orders.

Other ways to collect using MobilePay

You can request MobilePay donations on social media by sharing the donation number in your post.

The MobilePay number can also be added to donation appeals or member letters, for example. In that case, remember to include the Red Cross collection permit number in the letter, which can be found on the collection box or here.

PayPal POS allows you to accept contactless payments

To accept contactless payments, you will need either:

• an Android phone with the PayPal POS app and an internet connection
  or
• a Zettle card reader, plus a smartphone or tablet with the PayPal POS app and an internet connection.

Tap to Pay on an Android phone

With an Android phone, you can accept donations without a separate card reader.

• Log in to the PayPal POS app on the phone using your branch's credentials
• Select the Donations folder
• Add an item to the basket or enter the total amount
• Tap Pay, then select Tap to Pay as the payment method
• The donor taps their card against the back of the Android phone
• Make sure the payment method stays in contact with the phone until it has been read successfully and your phone vibrates.

Proceeds go directly to the Disaster Relief Fund

When you are logged in to the PayPal POS app using your branch's Disaster Relief Fund credentials, the collection proceeds are directed straight to the Disaster Relief Fund. You can track your branch's collection total in the collection results tracking spreadsheet on the Zettle proceeds sheet.

Order a PayPal POS user account for your branch

Send an order request by email to keraykset@punainenristi.fi. When placing the order, indicate which email address you want to use as the username. Once the user account is created, instructions for creating a password will be sent automatically to that email address. You can also receive password reset instructions at that address if you forget your password. If you have forgotten your username, you can inquire about it at keraykset@punainenristi.fi.

You can set up an individual collection, a team collection, or join an existing team.

Donation appeal letters can be distributed directly to letterboxes

A Hunger Day donation appeal letter template will be added to the material bank in August. It can be printed and distributed to letterboxes in the branch's area.

The letter has three editable fields: 1) under the signature, below the text "Finnish Red Cross", there is a space for the branch name; 2) in the reference number section, there is a space for the branch's Hunger Day donation reference number; and 3) in the MobilePay section, there is a space for the branch-specific MobilePay number. (If your branch does not have a MobilePay number, enter the general number 10900 here.) Fill in these fields before printing. This way, donations will go directly towards your branch's Hunger Day result.

You can request help with printing from your district or from a local company.

You can also write your own donation appeal letter

In the branch's own letter, you could describe, for example, how you have helped in your area using funds from the Disaster Relief Fund.

Remember that, under the Money Collection Act, donations may only be requested for an account that is included in the money collection permit. So, in the letter, give the Disaster Relief Fund account number and your branch's Hunger Day reference. It is also worth including the branch's MobilePay number in the letter.
